Profile of the study program

Gender Studies is an inter- or transdisciplinary and internationally oriented field of science and research that understands "gender" as a category of critical analysis of science, culture and society. It deals with topics such as gender-specific division of labor and gender pay gap, with discrimination and with justice, with different ways of life and lifestyles or with gender images in different media and their influence on everyday life, in general with conditions and meanings of gender and gender relations in different historical, social and political contexts. Accreditation

The accreditation of study programs at Goethe University aims as a procedure of quality assurance at high-quality study programs. In Hesse, study programs are generally accredited before they begin teaching, in accordance with § 12 para. 2 HHG. Since the admission to system accreditation, accreditation has been carried out as internal (re-)accreditation within the framework of the establishment or continuation of study programs; previously, accreditation was carried out via external program accreditation, which is currently being processed.

In February 2018, the Goethe University Senate decided to extend the accreditation period for future (re)accreditations from six to eight years on the recommendation of the internal Accreditation Commission. It thus follows a corresponding resolution of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany. In connection with this decision, the Internal Accreditation Commission decided in April 2018 to also extend the accreditation period of study programs that have already been internally accredited once, but whose re-accreditation procedures have not yet been started, by two years in order to standardize the procedure for the future. This means that the accreditation period of the B.A. minor in Gender Studies has been extended until March 31, 2023. In 2023, the study program has been accredited again.
