The Cornelia Goethe Center for Gender Studies (CGC) is an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented research and study center at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, in which scholars* from various disciplines and status groups cooperate.

The CGC develops interdisciplinary issues and research projects. Further focal points: Courses on Gender Studies, a certified study program and the promotion of early career researchers (GRADE Center Gender).

The history of the Center

Founded in 1997 on the initiative of Ute Gerhard, the first holder of a chair for women's and gender studies in the Federal Republic of Germany, 15 years later around 50 professors and research assistants at Goethe University were already associated with the CGC.

Our Namesake

The Cornelia Goethe Centrum received its name on December 7, 2000, on the occasion of the 250th birthday of Cornelia Schlosser, née Goethe.
